Hi everyone, I’m Li. It’s been 14 months since I lost my job.
I used to live in a crowded downtown urban village. Buildings stood meters apart, blocking nearly all sunlight. Locals joked sunshine cost extra rent—dark flats were half the price of bright ones. Though cheap and close to transport, the endless gloom dragged my spirits down. After being laid off, I moved to an 8-square-meter shared room in the suburbs. It’s far from subway stations, but full of warm sunlight, my biggest comfort now.
I furnished the tiny room with second-hand items and cook simple meals daily to save money. My savings can only cover rent for two more months, yet I still feed stray cats. I feel connected to them: we all struggle through uncertain days, clinging to small hopes.
I hesitated long before sharing my plain, unglamorous daily life, fearing negative feedback. Later I understood I should document real, unfiltered ordinary life rather than fancy perfect lifestyles. I have no idea where this path leads, yet I hold faith that humble living can still be soft and warm.
If you want to know more about my simple daily routine, details can be found in the video linked below.
