Long-term unemployment brings endless economic and mental challenges. Without steady income for 16 months, I have been struggling to cover basic living costs. My limited savings are drying up rapidly, and even an ordinary $120 monthly rent has become unaffordable for me. To relieve financial stress, I followed online recommendations and planned to inspect a local ultra-low-cost rental priced at only $14 per month, hoping to reduce my daily spending.
This decision made me reflect on my past living experiences. The poor living conditions in my student years once hindered my study and left persistent regrets, making me value living quality more than anything else. Despite this principle, I still chose to visit the cheap rental out of realistic pressure, wanting to make the most practical choice for my difficult situation.
The on-site investigation revealed severe problems hidden behind the extremely low rent. Apart from the poor environment and remote location, the house had obvious structural damage and potential safety hazards. Living in such a dangerous space would bring endless anxiety and huge mental pressure, which is far more unbearable than economic pressure. I firmly refused the $14 room finally. True self-rescue in adversity is not blind compromise, but insisting on proper living standards and never giving up on life easily.
